regional iberia-biscay-ireland

To observe the IBI area we need to combine observations acquired with satellitte and IN-SITU. For In-SITU the obeserving system are deployed and operated mainly at national level while there is a willingness to set up some transregional observing system operated jointly by different institutes.

Sea Surface temp

For The European Ocean- The L3 multi-sensor (supercollated) product is built from bias-corrected L3 mono-sensor (collated) products at the resolution 0.02 degrees. If the native collated's resolution is N and N < 0.02 the change of resolution (degradation) of resolution is done by averaging the best quality data. If N >0.02 the collated data are associated to the nearest neighbour without interpolation nor artificial increase of the resolution.

A synthesis of the bias-corrected L3 mono-sensor (collated) files remapped is done through a selection of data based on the following hierarchy : AATSR, METOP, NAR17-18, AVHRRL-17-18,AVHRRG-17-18, SEVIRI_1H, GOES-12H, AMSRE, TMI, MODIS_A, MODIS_T. This hierarchy can be changed in time depending on the health of each sensor. This product is generated by Météo-France and will be distributed by Ifremer/CERSAT . The main characteristics of the this product are described in the following manual

At Ifremer/Cersat a gridded L4 product is generated using the ODYSSEA processing chain and delivered at CERSAT contact

True Color (Chl)

For the Atlantic Iberian Biscay Irish Ocean- Meris-derived Chlorophyll-a surface concentration processed by the OC5 algorithm (coastal dedicated) and water-leaving radiances is genarated daily by Ifremer and described in the following readme

In Situ

Within the IBI community we are updating regularly the inventory of the operational observing system operated by the different institutes. A study is also on going to define the future observing system that would be needed. The updated version will be visible at IBI WWW site

Data Centre

Within IBI-ROOS two institutes, Ifremer and Puertos Del Estado , joined their efforts to collect data from a number of observing systems such as profiling floats, XBT, CTD, moorings, and vessels(research and ferrybox) . Data from these systems are provided on a single portal, in the same format and updated daily. It integrates data from France (Coriolis, Shom,… )Spain (Puertos Del Estado, IEO, MeteoGalicia, AZTI,..), Ireland (Irish Marine Institute) and Portugual (Hydrographic Institute) [15]. Data from this FTP site are encoded in the OceanSites netCDF format (see next section). The service is accessible from IBI-ROOS WWW site where all the relevant information are provided

The list of the data center providers is updated on the IBI ROOS WWW site at this adress
